Samsung Galaxy S9 to launch with Snapdragon 845, Android 8.0.0 Oreo

Image
The Galaxy S9 is tipped to have the same 18:9 display found on the Galaxy S8 and will come with 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB storage Information circulating the Internet suggests that Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S9 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 Platform, sport 4GB RAM and 64GB built in storage and run Android O out of the box. The smartphone is also expected to have a new Samsung TouchWiz UI. It is also possible that there will be a variant of the smartphone that will be powered by the Exynoss SoC. According to XDA, “Samsung will be securing the first batch of this new chip (Snapdragon 845), possibly delaying other 845 phones by a few months again. Finally, our source tells us that the fingerprint sensor will be in a centered rectangular cutout — while this seemingly rules out an in-display fingerprint scanner, keep in mind the device our source is acquainted is essentially an early prototype, and this might change further in development.” advertisements

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo receives Android 7.0 Nougat update

Image
Samsung Android Firmware Updates While Google is busy releasing Android 8.0 Oreo to its supported devices, Samsung keeps on outing Android 7.0 Nougat updates for its smartphones. The latest model to be graced with such a feat is the Galaxy S5 Neo, a handset released exactly two years ago. That makes this certainly the last big software update it will ever see - considering its age, but also the fact that it launched running Lollipop and was then upgraded to Marshmallow too. The Galaxy S5 Neo was produced in two versions, one for Europe and one for Canada. It's the latter (with the model number G903W) that is currently getting a taste of Nougat. The rollout is fully under way, but as usual it might take a few days for it to reach all the units out there. Once you apply the update, your phone will be on firmware version G903WVLU1CQH4. We're hoping that the other S5 Neo variant (with the model number G903F) won't be forgotten by Samsung either, and it will get this new

Samsung Galaxy Note8 is the best screen DisplayMate has ever tested

Image
IFA is taking place later this week in Berlin, and as usual there will be plenty of mobile-related events. Samsung's is scheduled for August 30 at 6 PM local time, and today the Korean company took to Twitter to release its first teaser for the grand unveiling of its next wearable. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S8 also scored an A+ on DisplayMate’s tests (the Galaxy S7 and S7edge have won the same title in the past),and the Galaxy Note8 has beat the S8’s excellent score. For starters, the Note8 gets 22% higher peak brightness than the Galaxy S8, reaching past 1,200 nits, which is very impressive. Of course, the Note8 gets the same HDR certifications that the S8 got. Other highlights include: Full 100% color gamut used on 4K TVs certified by the UHD alliance. Larger native color gamut with deeper reds. 112% DCI-P3 and 141% of sRGB. Samsung offers an extensive choice of color calibrations and fine-tuning of the display’s color balance. If you’d like to dig into the Galaxy

Apple iPhone 8 will come in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB flavors

Image
The upcoming iPhone 8 will launch in three storage options - the base 64GB, a middle 256GB and a whopping 512GB one - and all three will have 3GB of RAM and the new Apple A11 chip. This means Apple will doubles the available storage options compared to the iPhone 7 lineup (which has 32GB/128GB/256GB). The information comes by way of a China leak showing the alleged 64GB storage chip, built by Sandisk. According to the source the 64GB and 256GB flash storage will be manufactured by Sandisk and Toshiba, while the 512GB unit by Samsung and Hynix. We advise not to get your hopes too high until Apple confirms it officially though. LG to announce the V30 on August 31st IF

Image
Add caption LG  has sent save-the-dates to the media for an announcement event to take place in Berlin on August 31. Just one day before IFA kicks off. The LG V30 will be the star of this announcement given that the invite is a tall 18:9 display with a V-shape design in the background. The date in this invite lines up with previous speculations regarding the devices’ expected release date. Only recently, an LG V30 render was leaked, based on CAD designs. In addition, the V30 is believed to sport an OLED display and the secondary display would no longer make an appearance on the V series after debuting on the V10 and appearing on the V20. Wireless charging is also believed to make it to the LG V30. Under the hood, we are expecting a Snapdragon 835 and at least 4GB of RAM. The V series always seemed to have something interesting over the G series, but with the supposed removal of the secondary screen, what could be the next unique thing about the V30?

Android 8.0 Oreo is official

Image
As expected, Google today decided to finally unveil the moniker of the next iteration of Android. Known simply as "O" for the past few months while a few Developer Previews and public betas went out, it now officially has a full name. It's Android 8.0 Oreo. So yes, the most rumored name actually turned out to be what Google chose to call its latest sweet treat. It's only the second time in Android's history when there's a commercial partnership involved - for version 4.4 KitKat Google teamed up with Nestle (which owns that brand), and this time around the search giant managed to get Mondelez on board the co-branding train. Android 8.0 Oreo's code will be uploaded by Google engineers to the Android Open Source Project today, while software updates for the supported Nexus and Pixel devices are due to arrive "soon". Of course the final build will be sent to those devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program too.

Samsung Galaxy S8 review: Essence distilled

Image
Introduction When 5 inches is the de-facto standard for a compact Android handset, yet you want to prove that more is always better, what do you do? Well, it depends on the definition of more. You can do something crazy, stupid or impossible. Samsung? They decided to be sensible. Design a phone, build a screen, put the screen where it always goes. Business as usual. It's pretty much the same phone as the Galaxy S7. Size-wise, that is. Only with a 5.8" display where there used to be a 5.1" screen. 5.8=5.1. How is this possible? Well, maybe the new Galaxy S is from the same book as this. Now, back to present time. The LG G6 has been around for some time, and we also asked you to look beyond the diagonal in our Galaxy S8+ review earlier this week. Displays are getting taller and breaking out of the 16:9 box they were trapped in for a few years now. But while LG opted for a square times-two 18:9 ratio, Samsung went with 18.5:9, because why not. Both of this

Sony Xperia XZ Premium review

Image
Introduction The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a gorgeous 4K display. Better yet, a 4K HDR display! The latest Snapdragon 835 chipset is pulling the strings and delivering lightning-fast LTE while the Adreno 540 is firing up millions of pixels in a heartbeat. With or without the mirror finish, this is one of the classiest designs around and waterproof, too. A brand-new 19MP main camera does stunning slow-mo videos at 960fps. There is a 13MP autofocus selfie camera, true stereo speakers and one of the best skins around, the minimalist but feature-rich Xperia launcher All that sounds great but we can't miss the fact that while others stretched their screens as much as possible - to the point of them literally spilling over the bezel-less sides - Sony chose to cram extra pixels for a 4K display. While others punched extra holes to fit dual-camera setups, Sony was busy adding an extra memory buffer layer in a high-res sensor for striking slow-mo videos. One thing is clea
